Cadmium plating provides excellent corrosion resistance at relatively low thickness even in salt atmospheres. Cadmium also provides a low coefficient of friction and therefore good lubricity, predictable torque characteristics, good electrical conductivity, protection from galvanic corrosion (in particular when in contact with aluminum), and easy solderability.

STAINLESS STEEL PASSIVATION
Passivation is the generic term for removing the presence of metallic (free) iron from the surface of stainless steel products. During handling and processing operations such as forming, machining and tumbling, particles of iron and tool steel can be embedded or smeared on the surface of the stainless. If allowed to remain, these free iron particles will corrode and show as rust spots.

Chromate conversion coating converts the surface properties of aluminum. Chromate provides excellent corrosion resistance, is conductive and results in no measureable buildup on the parts. Chromate is the most common coating for corrosion protection of aluminum. It is commonly used for an undercoat for paint or adhesive applications due to the excellent bonding properties it provides.
